Tsho Rolpa Glacier Lake Trek
Trip Introduction
This region lies between Langtang range and Everest range and the sight of both Mt. Langtang and Mt. Everest are the highlights of this trek. The trekkers will be rewarded with the enchanting view of Majestic Mountain Gaurishankar. The route is near by the Tibet border side so that one can understand a little about Tibetan culture too. This area is mostly used by Buddhist people. However, we can also see the Brahmin, Chhetri, Tamang and Sherpa kami Damai villages and theirs life style. The trail following the course of River Tamakoshi on the way to Simigaun which adds more thrills to the trek. Between the Everest and Langtang regions is the stunning mid-Eastern range of the Himalayas; the Rolwaling valley. This is home to famous peaks such as Mount Ghauri Shankar (7134m), Dorje Lakpa, and many others. A few miles south of the Tibetan border, it is known as one of the seven hidden valleys in the Himalayas. This is a wild and barely explored district where legendary tales of the abominable snowman, known as the "Yeti", haunt the imagination of climbers. On the slope of Rolwaling Peak itself, the famous British mountaineer, Eric Shipton, first photographed Yeti footprints in 1951. The trek starts from Dolakha, near Charikot, but now a days due to favorable season we are able to go to singati too. Drive from Kathmandu. Trekkers also will be enjoying beauty of Tsho-Rolpa, the largest Glacier Lake in Nepal. There is a Great nunnery Gompa called Bigu Gompa. There are more than 300 nuns. Two festivals are celebrated in a year in this place like Mani Rimdu in Tenngboche Gompa in Khumbu region. In Sherpa Language, Biku means "Seed". There is Sherpa village from where stunning View of Gaurishankar (7,145m), Melungtse (7,181m) and other mountains, a good landscapes; the village of Beding (3,690m) and monastery, the village of Na (4,183m), Tso Rolpa Lake are the main attractions.
Day to Day Itinerary
Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrival in Kathmandu and meet our representative at the airport and transfer to Hotel. Welcome drink and short briefing, relax.
Day 02 Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley
Full day Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley with Tour Guide by private car,
In the morning after breakfast, our Tour Guide and private car will come to you for pick up. Then, our Tour Guide leads to you in Kopan Monastery, Asia’s first biggest Boudhanath Stupa, Hindus great pilgrimage Pashupatinath Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square by private car. Overnight in Hotel.
Day 03 Kathmandu to singati
Today after breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to Dolakha through the Sunkosi and Bhote Kosi River, taking about seven hours to reach. We will have our lunch in the place name is called Mude. During the drive, we pass the scenic villages and spectacular mountain views as well as picturesque landscapes and terraced fields. Dolakha is a good-sized village and the Ethnic Newars comprise the mail body of the population. The village spreads out of the mountain flank, Bhimsen Nath, one of the Hindu temple with a long history, stands about in the middle of the village.
Day 04 Shingati to Jagat
Morning after breakfast, we follow a dull path continuing along the river and the valley is much narrower. After crossing the stream and the trail becomes more like a mountain road, we will come across steeper slopes. We walk the narrow path on the cliff and arrive in Suri Dhoban from where view of Gaurisankar looming high over the valley upstream. We leave the village and cross by a suspension bridge, then climb a little higher around the path. We walk generally level trail except a few spots of steep ascent pass by Mani Stones and Prayer Wheel (cylindrical Buddhist object containing written prayers inside) until reaching Manthali village. We will have our lunch here. After lunch, we cross by a suspension bridge and follow the right bank to reach Jagat village
Day 05 Jagat to Simigaon
In the morning after breakfast, we follow the trail going down to the river shores, where rice paddies spread. We follow the trail into the forested area and arrive in Gongar village after crossing small stream. The course continues going up and down; now the valley becomes narrower forming a V-shaped valley. We follow a steep ascent by stone steps seeing picturesque water falls on the opposite bank to our right. Now, we finish the stone steps and go on a gentle flank through the millet fields until reaching the Sherpa village of Chhetchhet. We will have our lunch here. After lunch, we cross by a suspension bridge and go downstream. We begin a steep zigzag ascent, gaining elevation passing first part in forested area and gradually move into fields with open view. We continue our trek passing the chhorten until reaching Simigaon. We can see formidable Gaurisankar rises over the valley and visit the Buddhist Monastery
Day 06 Simigaon to Daldung-La
We leave the village after breakfast, from the Gompa of Simigaon, we go to the other side of the village, and descend by a gentle slope and go around the ridge by climbing up the steep stone steps. Now we enter through the forested area on the flank, with some ups and downs approaching the Rolwaling River. We will have our lunch on the way near the river side. Then, we again begin steep ascent through the forested area with glimpse of Gaurisankar and after finish steep ascent, the trail becomes level until reaching Daldung-La.
Day 07 Daldung La to Beding
We start our trek after breakfast; the trail goes through the forested area with ascents and descents until reaching Nyamare village where we have our lunch there. After lunch, we continue to the remotest and largest Sherpa village of Beding. There is a superb Gompa at the entrance of village. This is a largest settlement in Rolwaling valley with majority of Sherpas
Day 08 Exploration Day
Today, we will explore the surrounding hills and villages. Then, we meet the peoples and talk with their culture and tradition
Day 09 Beding to Na
In the morning after breakfast, we leave the village and start a gentle climb on the right bank of the Rolwaling River until reaching kharka in Dhogre. If we turn around, we can see the imposing Gaurisankar looking different because of the different angle. We continue our trekking the valley gradually opens and becomes a U-shaped valley and a prairie. Then, we pass the gigantic Mani stone draped with prayer flags and a large rock on which the image of Bodhisattva is panted and will come to Na Gaon surrounded by stone walls. Na Gaon is spreading at the base of a huge chain of mountains.
Day 10 Na to Tsho Rolpa Lake
In the morning after breakfast, we leave the village and cross the wooden bridge to the left bank of Rolwaling River. We move on the prairie-like valley. Now the course will becomes a slightly steep ascent and will see several kinds of edelweiss growing in this area. We trek between two glaciers and enter the ablation valley, soon see the Tsho Rolpa Lake
Day 11 Exploring the high glacial Tsho Rolpa Lake
Today, we explore the high glacial; lake and surrounding hills with fully view of snow-capped mountains.
Day 12 Tsho Rolpa Lake to Beding
In the morning after breakfast, we will return back from highly glacial lake same way back down with passing several small streams and ascents and descents through the village of Na
Day 13 Beding to Shakpa
Today also we return our same way back descents through the forested area and with short glimpse of Gaurisankar until reaching Shakpa. During the trek, we climb many ups and downs
Day 14 Shakpa to Manthali
Morning after breakfast, we again continue our same route which I have experienced before our climbing up trek. We cross the several ups and downs as well as cross many suspension bridges. We trek passing the many villages until reaching Manthali Village.
Day 15 Manthali to Piguti
In the morning after breakfast, we start our trek from the camp site and continue with climbing ups and downs until reaching Piguti passing the picturesque village and along the stream.
Day 16 Piguti to Kathmandu
Morning after breakfast, we drive back from piguti pass by Dolakha to Kathmandu passing the scenic river valley and picturesque villages and transfer to Hotel.
